Gemotions

The new house felt like an empty stage. Empty, and watching. He found himself avoiding looking out the windows, like he would see someone. He spent hours meticulously cleaning, scrubbing, trying to make the house his own, but the silence between the gusts of wind was the loudest part of all. He hadn’t felt this unsettled since… well, a long time.

He was in the basement, moving boxes, when he noticed it. A slight discolouration on the concrete wall, almost obscured by a cobweb. He knelt, tracing the outline of a rectangular shape. The feeling of dread was potent. He pulled at the loose section of brick. It gave way with a grating sound.
